Psychotherapy

My approach is compassionate and collaborative. I focus on using Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) and EMDR as my primary approaches to psychotherapy. You and I will work together in the context of a safe, trusting relationship to look at the areas in your life where you feel as if you’re stuck.

We are biologically wired to connect to each other, and in therapy you’ll discover that we heal through relating. The wounds that took place in relationships must be healed in a relationship. Disruption of secure connections with others is the reason for all emotional pain and suffering. Every issue that any patient brings to my office is, inevitably, an exploration and healing of a relationship trauma or disruption of connection with a significant person in his or her life.

I work to understand the unconscious motivation to continue patterns of behavior from the past. This is very important because our current actions can often be dictated by old coping strategies that were useful in the past but are now a source of suffering.

I will ask you about your feelings, I want to find out who you are underneath the words, ideas and fantasies. I want to invite you to a different relationship, to look at what’s going on within you, or between us, or with other people in your life. This will open the door to change and, ultimately, well-being.

You don’t have to struggle with overwhelming emotions alone. You can live a fuller life. You can have more vitality, understand yourself better and have richer experiences. You can become available for intimacy and joy and a more vital life experience.
